For the Good Life issue of FLUX Hawaii, I created an illustration for a short piece on a writer friend. He writes about coping with a recent loss of hearing and the impact it had on his life and ability to interview people as a storyteller. My goals was to succinctly capture the writer’s ability to see the bright side of the odds stacked against him. Though he can no longer use his ears for interviewing, he does not allow it to hinder his inspiration and creativity. I also tried to draw upon the style of lithographs typically found in older storybooks, since the writer talks about his fondness for stories and his desire to write creatively himself.
